Jeff Callaway

For nearly 20 years Jeff Callaway has been a fixture on the Mississippi music scene, performing and recording on trombone with many of Mississippi's most legendary figures from Marty Stuart to Bobby Rush with little regard for limits of musical genres or styles. He has performed with Jackson based groups like the Capitol City Stage Band, The Vamps, the Dee Barton Jazz Orchestra, and even the Mississippi Symphony, as well as Oxford based rock, blues and country bands including the Kudzu Kings, Blue Mountain, The Sincere Ramblers, Afrissippi, The Neckbones and many others. As his discography proves, he is equally versed in virtually any style, from the rock of John Hiatt to jazz, bluegrass and beyond.

He has also been a frequent contributor on MPB's "Thacker Mountain Radio" as a guest artist since the show's inception, performing with the show's original house band (including Ed Dye, T.B. Ledford & Caroline Herring) as well as departed legends Duff Dorrough and Jim Dickinson. In addition to performing in the Mississippi Grammy Legacy shows with artists like Charley Pride and Dorothy Moore, he has also been a mainstay in the popular Raphael Semmes presents "Mississippi LIVE!" musical heritage shows. Whether jamming with The Bo-Keys or Bonerama, he is always "on". According to Jackson bandleader/bassist Raphael Semmes, "For a number of years, Jeff has been the first call 'go to' guy because of his consistently high level of musicianship and his enthusiasm for making the music happen," adding "Jeff always brings (it) and always swings".

His debut album "By Landlord's Request" is an eclectic mix of jazz, pop, and country, and will be available on iTunes in March followed later by a double CD. He holds music degrees from Ole Miss and VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, is a member of the Ole Miss Jazz Alumni Hall of Fame, and has remained active as an instructor with some of Mississippi's best band programs, including Oxford, Southaven, and Ridgeland High Schools.
